Modern Power Converters:

Modern society with its conveniences strongly relies on the ubiquitous availability of electric energy. Contemporary power electronics is devoted to the conversion and control of electric power using electronics converters based on semiconductor power switches.

In this course the student will:

-know the different power converter topologies and their application
-is able to follow on his own the steps of a practical design of power supplies
-is able to solve practical problems using power electronic simulation packages (P-Spice)
-applies his theoretical knowledge with the help laboratory exercises

The course is based on a course book from Ned Mohan, a Professor from the University of Minnesota, working for the MNPERE (Minnesota Power Electronics Research & Education), USA. Although excerpts from his book will be distributed during the course (available as download links, only for the students of this course and not for further distribution), the student is encouraged to get a full paper copy for better comprehension:

First Course on Power Electronics and Drives
by Ned Mohan
Includes a CD-ROM with Adobe Acrobat slides, student version of PSpice and simulation examples with homework problems
298 pages, soft cover, ISBN: 0-9715292-4-8,
Published by MNPERE

The course will rely heavily on Moodle as organization platform for distributing course material. Further development of this site is planned and with the time tests and web based learning modules will be added. But this depends also on the students contributions. Therefore everybody is invited to participate as much as he wants and to help make this Moodle pages an even better learning experience for future students.
